Attorney and author James Grippando has won the 2017 Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction.

The award given by the University of Alabama School of Law and the American Bar Association Journal was awarded for his novel “Gone Again.”

In a report on the University of Alabama website, Grippando said, “I don’t know who is happier, James Grippando the writer or James Grippando the lawyer. Winning the 2017 Harper Lee Prize for Legal Fiction is easily the proudest moment of my dual career.”

The award goes to a published work of fiction that best illuminates the role of lawyers in society and their power to effect change.

The award will be presented at the University of Alabama School of Law on Sept. 14.
