Going against the trend of Columbus area schools remaining closed Tuesday in the wake of Tropical Storm Irma, Auburn University will reopen Tuesday.

Auburn employees are scheduled to report to work by 7:45 a.m. CDT and classes will resume at noon, the university announced Monday morning.

“Currently, the impact of Hurricane Irma is forecast to be through the Auburn area by about 6 a.m. on Tuesday,” the news release says. “The university will continue to monitor this storm as it progresses and, if conditions worsen, will reevaluate the situation. Monitor www.auburn.edu and @AuburnSafety for the latest developments.

“If employees or students have safety concerns about returning to campus Tuesday, they should contact their supervisor or professors to discuss their specific situation.

“Because of the increased likelihood of tropical-storm-force winds in the area, Draughon Library and Greene Hall will be available Monday and Monday night to students and employees who have a need for shelter such as those who live in mobile homes.”

The university, however, will reschedule Tuesday’s talk by Dave Eggers, author of the international bestseller "The Circle," due to travel issues from the storm, the news release says.
