Nominee for executive director of programs for exceptional students to be presented to school board

Superintendent David Lewis will recommend Monday night that JoAnn Redden of Tampa, Fla., be hired as the Muscogee County School District’s executive director of programs for exceptional students.

The recommendation will come at a school board work session beginning at 5 p.m. in the Muscogee County Public Education Center on Macon Road.

Redden has worked in a number of roles in the Hillsborough County School District since 1991 and is currently consultant/data collector for its SAM Innovation Project.

Redden has worked with special education students in elementary and middle schools. According to her resume, she has worked with special education staff to ensure there were standard operating procedures in place for all special education students, parents and staff and also developed programs to ensure special education students were involved in all aspects of the educational programs at the schools.

In other business:

▪ Schools with the highest median student growth percentiles for the 2016-2017 school year will be recognized. The names of the schools were not listed in the agenda.

▪ The Federal Programs Department is requesting approval to contract with Columbus State University’s Oxbow Meadows Environmental Learning Center for an after school program at South Columbus Elementary School.

▪ The board will discuss approval of the Fiscal Year 2017 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax Performance Audit.

▪ The board will receive reports from Chattahoochee Valley Libraries and The Columbus Museum.

▪ A report on the school district’s technology plan for 2017-2020 will be heard.

▪ The board will hear a musical presentation from students at Rothschild Leadership Academy.

▪ The board will meet in executive session to discuss legal and personnel matters.
