Here are MCSD schools with most academic growth in 2016-17

The Muscogee County School District has honored the schools whose students made the most academic improvement relative to their statewide academic peers last school year.

This is the third straight year the district has given its SGP Awards, measured by the Student Growth Percentile. This year's awards are based on the 2017 results of the state’s standardized tests, called the Georgia Milestones Assessment System, compared to the 2016 results.

Academic peers are defined as other students statewide with a similar history of test scores. The SGP indicates how much a student’s academic performance has improved.

The SGP allows all students to demonstrate growth, regardless of their achievement level. MCSD awarded three places among its 32 elementary schools, 12 middle schools and nine high schools. The district also awarded multiple schools in certain places when there were ties.

Schools are given a median growth percentile for the English language arts and math growth of their students. These schools are being recognized for the highest median growth scores in the 2016-2017 school year:

ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

English language arts: 1. Dawson; 1. Waddell; 2. Forrest Road; 2. Gentian; 2. Johnson; 3. Midland.

Math: 1. Johnson; 2. Waddell; 3. Dawson.

MIDDLE SCHOOLS

English language arts: 1. Aaron Cohn; 2. Midland; 3. Veterans Memorial.

Math: 1. Aaron Cohn; 2. Blackmon Road; 3. Veterans Memorial.

Algebra I: Baker; 2. Fort; 3. Midland.

HIGH SCHOOLS

Ninth-grade literature: 1. Early College; 2. Northside; 3. Columbus.

American literature: 1. Columbus; 2. Northside; 3. Early College.

Algebra I: 1. Northside; 2. Shaw; 2. Carver.

Analytic Geometry: 1. Early College; 2. Northside; 3. Columbus.
