Here’s a list of where you can find free school meals this summer in the Columbus area

Columbus area school districts have announced their plans to continue providing free meals to children during summer vacation.

Muscogee County

The Muscogee County School District will conduct its annual Seamless Summer Feeding Program from June 1 through July 17.

The program is for all children, ages 0-18, or up to 21 years old if still in an educational setting. The child does not have to be a student in MCSD to qualify for a meal.

Meals will continue to be distributed Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the sites MCSD established after schools were closed in March due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic:

  • Baker Middle School
  • Carver High School
  • J.D. Davis Elementary School
  • Dawson Elementary School
  • Double Churches Middle School
  • Fox Elementary School
  • Key Elementary School
  • Spencer High School

Buses will deliver meals to the following sites:

  • Elizabeth Canty Apartments
  • Chase Homes
  • Eagle Trace Apartments
  • Jordan High School
  • Kendrick High School
  • Midland Academy
  • 30th Avenue Pre-K School
  • Victory Mission
  • Warren Williams Apartments
  • Whisperwood Apartments
  • Wilson Apartments

Safety guidelines for social distancing and protective personal equipment to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection will be required, as outlined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Harris County

June 1-29, the Harris County School District will provide free meals to anyone age 18 or younger Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m.-noon at these locations:

  • Park Elementary School in Hamilton
  • Bethesda Baptist Church in Ellerslie
  • Dollar General in Fortson
  • Pine Lane Apartments in Pine Mountain.

Two breakfast items and two lunch items will be served Mondays and Wednesdays, and three breakfast items and three lunch items will be served Fridays.

The only requirement is that each child’s first and last name must be provided.

Chattahoochee County

The Chattahoochee County School District can’t conduct a summer feeding program this year, superintendent Kristie Brooks told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email.

“The school system and recreation department have worked collaboratively over the last several years to provide a summer feeding program for the community,” she said. “This year, the recreation department will not be open due to COVID-19 to offer summer services.

“With the limited number of 240-day employees for the district, the system is unable to provide a summer feeding without the support of the recreation department. As we plan for the FY21 school year, we are exploring options for school nutrition so that the community has this much-needed service available.”

Phenix City

In its curbside grab-and-go program, Phenix City Schools will give five meals to any child age 18 or younger every Wednesday from June 3 through July 29, noon to 12:30 p.m., at these locations:

  • Central High School
  • Frederick Douglas Apartments
  • Riverview Apartments
  • LP Stough Apartments
  • Edmond Estates
  • Laurel Manor Mobile Homes
  • Suntrace Mobile Homes
  • Franchise Missionary Baptist Church.

Russell County

The Russell County School District will continue serving free meals to any child age 18 or younger in its current program the weeks of June 1 and June 8. The child must be present to receive a pack consisting of two-days worth of meals Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 11 a.m. to noon at these locations:

  • Crawford Volunteer Fire Department
  • Mount Olive Primary School
  • Hurtsboro City Hall
  • Pittsview Volunteer Fire Department.

RCSD’s schedule for the rest of the summer is expected to be announced before June 15.
