A Columbus State leader is a finalist to be the chancellor at another university

One of Columbus State University’s leaders is a finalist for the top job at another university.

Deborah Bordelon, CSU’s second-in-command as the provost and executive vice president, is among four finalists to be the next chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The three other finalists the University of Wisconsin System announced in a news release are:

  • Jeanine Gangeness, associate vice president for academic affairs and dean of the School of Graduate Studies at Winona State University-Rochester.
  • Thomas Gibson, vice president for student affairs and vice provost at Bowling Green University.
  • Katy Heyning, provost and vice president for academic affairs at the State University of New York-Brockport.

This month or next, the finalists will participate in separate virtual public forums, according to the news release. A selection committee will consider the campus feedback and interview the finalists to recommend a candidate to the UW Board of Regents, which will vote on the appointment.

The vacancy was created when Bernie Patterson announced in March he plans to retire at the end of this year. Patterson has been the Wisconsin-Stevens Point chancellor for 10 years.

Bordelon was hired at CSU in December 2017. She previously was the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Governors State University in Illinois. She has held teaching and administrative posts at Nicholls State University and Xavier University in Louisiana.

Bordelon earned a doctorate in special education, a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, all from the University of New Orleans.
