The Chattahoochee County School District has announced its Teachers and Support Persons of the Year.

Kimberlie Walker, an English language arts teacher for grades 8-9 at Chattahoochee County Middle and High School, is the district’s Teacher of the Year. Amanda Williamson, the bookkeeper and administrative assistant at the Chattahoochee County Education Center, is the district’s Support Person of the Year.

Walker teaches her students in ways that require them to use critical thinking and analysis, ChattCo superintendent Kristie Brooks said in a news release.

“Ms. Walker promotes a growth mindset and maintains the highest expectations for each student,” she said.

Williamson creates positive programs for students and families to promote school spirit and “goes above and beyond” to help the staff, Brooks said.

At halftime of the Nov. 5 football game, ChattCo also honored Charlotte Richards as the CCEC Teacher of the Year and Kimberly Rembert the CCMHS Support Person of the Year.

Rembert, the CCMHS receptionist, welcomes everyone with a “a warm smile and truly listens and supports,” Brooks said. She calmly talks to concerned parents and is known as a problem solver, Brooks said.

Richards, a prekindergarten teacher, meets the needs of each student, Brooks said. “Her focus of structure and language development” helps nearly all her students enter kindergarten as beginning readers, Brooks said.

Education officials in the Chattahoochee-Flint region serve on the selection committee, which evaluates the candidates based on written responses, observation, technology integration and student engagement, Brooks told the Ledger-Enquirer.

Anyone with at least three years of experience in the district can be nominated by their peers, who vote on the nominees to determine the school representative, Brooks said. Recommendations from the community also are considered, she said.

The award winners shared their reaction in emails to the L-E:

  • Walker: “ChattCo is so successful because of the relationships that have been built and continue to be built. So being selected by administrators and colleagues is perhaps my proudest professional moment as well as one of the most humbling.”
  • Williamson: “I felt honored that my peers selected me as Support Person of the Year for all the hard work I put into our school and district every day. My job is to support the students, parents, other employees and community, and to be recognized for my work is very special to me.”
  • Richards: “I am honored to even be considered for such a prestigious honor. As I was being awarded this honor, I quickly thought about all who had poured into me through the years — teachers, admin and my community. I have been blessed to work with the best faculty and staff.”
  • Rembert: “I am so appreciative and grateful to be thought of in this way. I look forward to seeing and interacting with the students each day. I’m intentional about how I make everyone feel. I understand that I am the first person of contact here at ChattCo. I get one shot, and I try to make it count.”
