The first female principal in the 67-year history of Harris County High School will start her new duties March 1.

And she is a graduate of the school.

Lindie Snyder, who has been the principal of Creekside School Intermediate School (grades 5-6) since June 2018, will transfer to HCHS, where Tyler Dunn has been the principal since February 2020. Dunn will become the coordinator of the new HCHS Science and Technology Center, which is being developed in the former Harris County Carver Middle School.

“In her time at Creekside, Mrs. Snyder has demonstrated her ability to improve student achievement and school culture,” Harris County School District superintendent Roger Couch said in a news release Tuesday. “Not only are students experiencing far more academic opportunities and achieving at higher levels than ever before, but the staff are also able to work as a team inside a family atmosphere. I have great faith that she will have a similar positive impact on the high school as well.”

Snyder has been working in HCSD for 21 years. She started as a teacher at the middle school, where she became assistant principal and athletics director.

“I have always felt a sense of pride teaching and mentoring our students,” Snyder said in the news release. “. . . As I return to my alma mater, is it my distinct privilege to serve the students of Harris County in this new role.”

Snyder added, “I am confident my leadership experience, rich community connections and passion for education will be an asset to HCHS. I believe my vision for excellence in the classroom, athletics and extracurricular activities will inspire our students to become local, state, national and world contributors and leaders. I have a desire to rejuvenate long-standing traditions as well as create new ways to bring our community together to support our students.”

Snyder earned her bachelor’s, master’s and specialist’s degrees in education from Troy University.

Couch said he expects the combined leadership of Snyder and Dunn will expand the school’s Career, Technology and Agricultural Education program to offer students “the variety of options they need to find their path, whether it is attending a university, technical school or jumping straight into a position.”

Shurlane Josey, an assistant principal at Creekside, will be the interim administrator for that school until a new principal is hired, HCSD spokeswoman Rachel Crumbley told the Ledger-Enquirer.
