Some students will be admitted into Columbus State University without being required to take a college entrance exam.

CSU announced Tuesday a temporary test-free admissions policy for certain prospective freshmen applying for the fall 2022 semester. Applicants who have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher, based on the Required High School Curriculum as calculated by CSU, won’t be required to submit ACT or SAT scores.

Those who previously applied for fall 2022 admission will be re-evaluated under this temporary criteria.

“We are committed to providing all our future CSU Cougars a ‘creative to the core’ academic experience,” Sallie McMullin, CSU associate vice president for enrollment management, said in a news release. “With this move, we look forward to helping more graduating high school seniors with their transition to a successful and rewarding college experience.”

The University System of Georgia authorized this change to Columbus State’s admission requirements to expedite the admission process and make it more accessible, the news release says.

According to USG’s latest enrollment figures, CSU’s fall 2021 semester enrollment was 7,924, a drop of 5.4% from the fall 2020 semester enrollment of 8,376, while USG’s total enrollment dipped 0.2% (from 341,489 to 340,638). CSU’s enrollment decline was tied for the eighth-largest among USG’s 26 institutions.

CSU is among the 23 USG institutions granting a test-score waiver. The three excluded institutions are Georgia College & State University, Georgia Tech and the University of Georgia.
