Muscogee County school calendars for next two years are set. See key dates here
The Muscogee County School District calendars determining when Columbus public schools will be open and closed the next two academic years are set.
During the combined work session and meeting Monday night., the MCSD board unanimously approved the administration’s proposed calendars for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years. Here are key dates for classes and holidays:
2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR
- Aug. 1: first day for teachers
- Aug. 7: first day for students in prekindergarten through second grade
- Aug. 8: first day for students in grades 3-12
- Sept. 4: closed for Labor Day
- Oct. 6: virtual learning for grades 3-12 (no school for prekindergarten through second grade)
- Oct. 9: teacher planning and staff development (no school for students)
- Nov. 10: closed for Veterans Day
- Nov. 20-24: closed for Thanksgiving break
- Dec. 21-Jan. 2: closed for winter break
- Jan. 3: teaching planning and staff development (no school for students)
- Jan. 4: second semester begins
- Jan. 15: closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- Feb 16: teacher planning and staff development (no school for students)
- Feb. 19: closed for Presidents Day
- April 1-5: closed for spring break
- May 15-18: graduation ceremonies
- May 21: last day of classes
- May 22-23: teacher planning
2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR
- Aug. 1: first day for teachers
- Aug. 7: first day for students in prekindergarten through second grade
- Aug. 8: first day for students in grades 3-12
- Sept. 2: closed for Labor Day
