PCS honored the winners Dec. 7 during the school system’s annual Night of Stars awards gala in the Courtyard Marriott Phenix City Riverfront hotel.

“Each honoree exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism and is a testament to the quality of education in Phenix City Schools,” PCS said in its news release.

PCS plans to add an Administrator of the Year category to its awards, starting next year.

Also at the gala, PCS thanked Phenix City Education Foundation board chairwoman Pat Waldrop “for her generous leadership and care, which played a pivotal role in the success of this event,” the news release says.

“Phenix City Schools is committed to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for students and staff. As these award winners move forward to represent the district at the state level, we are filled with pride and confidence in their abilities to showcase the spirit and values of our community.”

On the PCS Facebook page are video from the event and a feature about the winners.

How the winners were selected

Based on observations and colleague recommendations, administrators at each PCS school choose their teacher and classified employee of the year.

A committee comprising the superintendent, district administrators and the Phenix City Education Foundation use a rubric to evaluate the school winners, including their observations and candidate portfolios, to select the system winners.

“They are exemplary educators committed to student growth and the overall mission of Phenix City Schools,” PCS public relations specialist Carol Ann Underwood told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email.
