2014 Summer Camps and Activities

The Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus (YOGC) will host its annual string camp "Strings on Broadway", June 16-21. The camp will be held at CSU's Schwob School of Music at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts.

This year's camp will focus on music theory and composition, fiddling, classical and contemporary music and advanced and intermediate orchestras. Tuition is $200 which includes a t-shirt and snack. String camp is open to string instrument musicians with at least one year of school orchestra or private lessons to intermediate and advanced students. Current YOGC students do not need to audition for camp, but all other musicians do.

St. Francis Health Matters will offer "Safe Sitter", June 11. This is a medically accurate program that teaches boys and girls, ages 11-13, how to handle emergencies when caring for children. It also teaches safe and nurturing childcare techniques, behavior management skills and appropriate responses to medical emergencies. The class will be held 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at 3740 Woodruff Road, Rosemont Shopping Center. The fee is $50 per child, which includes lunch, manual and completion card.

Swimming lessons are available at FDR State Park's Liberty Bell Pool (Session II), June 17, 21, 23 and 24. The cost is $40 per child.

Let your child discover the natural wonders of the FDR State Park, June 11-13. The program is for girls and boys, ages 8-11. A $75 fee per child includes swimming, art projects, camp journal, t-shirt, special citizen science activities, outstanding instructors and a parking pass for parents to join-in on the special campfire program the last day of the camp.
