MCSD directors for nutrition, army instruction to be recommended at meeting

Superintendent David Lewis will recommend the appointment of Susan Schlader as the director of school nutrition for the Muscogee County School District at a school board work session Monday night.

At the session, which begins at 5 p.m. in the Muscogee County Public Education Center on Macon Road, Lewis will also recommend Lt. Col. (Ret) Roger Barros as director for army instruction.

Schlader is currently assistant director of school nutrition, a job she has held since 2009. She has been with the MCSD since 2007 and previously was school nutrition director in Talbot County.

Barros has served as deputy director for army instruction since 2012. From 2004-2012, he was the senior army instructor at Columbus High.

In other business:

According to the agenda, Lewis will ask the board to approved the concept and third phase of the superintendent re-organization plan for the divisions on information services and student services to be implemented for the 2014-2015 school year.

This phase includes the addition of a senior director regulatory compliance position. This person will be involved

The board will also discuss a swap of approximately 33 acres of land with the Columbus Consolidated Government.

Approval of a five-year local facilities plan will be discussed.

The board will hear a report on the iCivics Pilot Program that is designed to provide free instructional support to social studies teachers and students in American government and economics courses.

The board will be asked to approve French and Associates to design and supervise the installation of artificial turf at Kinnett Stadium. The cost is $790,000.
