8 Columbus schools threatened on social media. Muscogee County district responds
The Muscogee County School District announced Wednesday night that a social media post contains a threat against eight of its schools. They are:
- Midland Middle School
- East Columbus Magnet Academy
- Rothschild Middle School
- Fort Middle School
- Baker Middle School
- Shaw High School
- Eddy Middle School
- Double Churches Middle School
“MCSD takes all threats of this nature seriously,” the school district’s news release says. “The MCSD Police Department, in collaboration with local law enforcement, has deemed this threat not credible. MCSD Police are actively investigating the matter. Out of an abundance of caution, police presence will be on all affected campuses throughout the day tomorrow to ensure the safety and security of our students and staff.
“We want to thank our community for its swift action in informing us of the threat. Your vigilance and partnership help us maintain a safe environment for our students.
“We are continuing to investigate and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
The news release didn’t specify the threat. The Ledger-Enquirer will update this story when that answer is received.
