Leadership change at CVCC brings interim leader to president’s office
Chattahoochee Valley Community College is going through a leadership change.
Alabama Community College System chancellor Jimmy Baker visited the campus Monday in Phenix City and announced the appointment of Annette Funderburk as CVCC’s interim president.
Funderburk, who has been president of J.F. Ingram State Technical College in Deatsville, Alabama, for the past seven years, temporarily replaces Jackie Screws as CVCC’s leader until a permanent successor is hired. Screws retired after 38 years working in the system, including the past eight years as CVCC president.
As president of Ingram State, Funderburk has led the state’s career and technical education, adult education, GED programming and workforce training for inmates in correctional facilities.
Funderburk has worked for 17 years in the system, according to the ACCS. Her previous positions include interim president of Ingram State, ACCS external affairs director and ACCS workforce and governmental affairs officer. She also has worked in government jobs as a municipal consultant and Tallapoosa County Commission administrator.
Her college degrees are a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Montevallo and a master’s in public administration from Troy University.
“Annette Funderburk brings deep experience and strong statewide relationships to this role,” Baker said in CVCC’s news release. “She is well-prepared to guide CVCC during this transition.”
It’s unclear how long the transition is expected to take or the selection process to hire a permanent president for CVCC.
“While ACCS has not shared a specific timeline yet, we will keep our campus and community informed as updates become available,” CVCC public information officer Betsy Bishop told the Ledger-Enquirer in an email.
The L-E didn’t reach an ACCS official for comment before publication.
Meanwhile, Screws expressed confidence in CVCC’s future, saying in the news release that the college is “well-positioned for continued growth and progress.”
“It is a privilege to serve this college,” Funderburk said in the news release. “CVCC is moving forward with exciting momentum, and I look forward to working with its dedicated faculty and staff.”
