Gunshots reported in area of school, MCSD HQ and library in Columbus. Perimeter secured

A report of gunshots in the area Friday prompted officials to place a secure perimeter around three public facilities in midtown Columbus, according to a news release from the Muscogee County School District.

The Muscogee County Public Education Center, the Columbus Public Library and Rainey-McCullers School of the Arts were the affected buildings, according to the MCSD news release.

“MCSD Police, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office and the Columbus Police Department are on the scene actively investigating the incident,” says MCSD’s news release, which the Ledger-Enquirer received at 4:07 p.m. “After the investigation, the secured perimeter has been lifted.”
