Two schools in Phenix City were placed on lockdown Friday morning after the school system received an anonymous threat.

“The district immediately implemented precautionary safety measures to protect students and staff,” the news release says.

Phenix City Elementary School and Phenix City Intermediate School were in lockdown while school officials collaborated with the Phenix City Police Department to ensure campus safety, according to the news release.

“Both schools have since been cleared and are now out of lockdown, with safety measures still in place,” the news release says.

The details of the threat and the exact amount of time the schools were on lockdown aren’t mentioned in the news release. Phenix City Schools public relations specialist Eric Robinson didn’t reply to the Ledger-Enquirer’s query before publication.

“We are incredibly grateful for the professionalism and cooperation displayed by our staff, the Phenix City Police Department, and our students throughout this situation,” the news release says. “We appreciate the continued trust and support of our Phenix City Schools community. The Phenix City Police Department is continuing to investigate the source of the threat. Additional information will be shared as appropriate.”
