The Phenix City Board of Education will conduct public interviews this week with the four finalists to be the school district’s new superintendent.

Here’s the schedule Phenix City Schools released Monday:

The interviews will be in the boardroom of the PCBOE Auxiliary Services Building, 1212 Ninth Ave. They will be livestreamed on the school district’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

“Everyone is encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity to meet the candidate after each interview,” the news release says. “Phenix City Board of Education is excited to move forward with the superintendent selection process and is committed to upholding the district’s vision and mission in the selection of its next leader. The Board thanks everyone for their continued support of Phenix City Schools.”

The following background information about the candidates was gleaned from online news articles and the Alabama Association of Schools Boards, which is helping the PCBOE in its superintendent search.

Chambley is a former superintendent of Chambers County School District, where the superintendent is elected. He lost reelection in 2024. Chambley was Chambers County’s superintendent from 2021-24. He currently works as a director of the instructional center at Ingram State Technical College.

Girtman resigned this year as superintendent of Ozark City Schools. Girtman was Ozark’s superintendent for five years. He previously was a principal in Eufaula (2020-21) and elementary curriculum director in Phenix City (2018-20).

Robinson is executive leadership coach for the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders. He was superintendent of the Stewart County School District from 2022-25.

Walters is interim superintendent of Phenix City Schools. Walters has more than 25 years of experience in PCS. He was assistant superintendent for administration and operations (2024-26). He has worked as a teacher, reading coach, assistant principal, coordinator and director. He has overseen departments such as maintenance and operations, transportation, child nutrition, school safety, athletics, extracurricular programs, student health care, human resources and student services.

AASB’s presentation to the PCBOE shows these four finalists were selected out of 23 candidates who applied for the position.
