New principal coming to Columbus school if Muscogee board OKs recommendation

A Columbus public school will have a new principal next school year if the Muscogee County School District Board approves the superintendent’s recommendation next week.

During is May 18 meeting, the board is scheduled to vote on Superintendent David Lewis’ recommended appointment of Ebony Robinson as principal of Davis Elementary School.

Robinson would succeed Aetavia Williams, who is retiring.

According to the agenda and her resume, Robinson has been an educator for 18 years, all in MCSD, including as assistant principal at Davis since 2021.

She began her career as a teacher at North Columbus Elementary School from 2008-17. She was an academic coach at Wynnton Arts Academy from 2017-2020 and the dean of Dawson Elementary School from 2020-21.

Robinson earned four degrees in early childhood education: an associate’s from Columbus Technical College, a bachelor’s from Columbus State University, a master’s from CSU and a specialist’s from CSU. She also earned educational leadership certification from CSU.

In an email to the Ledger-Enquirer, Lewis said Robinson was selected among 20 applicants, and seven of them were interviewed.

Asked why he recommended Robinson, Lewis wrote, “Mrs. Robinson brings nearly two decades of educational experience to the role, having served in a variety of instructional and leadership positions including teacher, academic coach, dean, and assistant principal. These experiences have equipped her with the knowledge, leadership skills, and student-centered focus necessary for the principalship.

“Since joining the J.D. Davis staff as assistant principal in 2021, Mrs. Robinson has worked closely with students, staff, and families, developing strong relationships and a deep understanding of the school community. Her familiarity with the school’s culture, strengths, and needs will provide important continuity and position her to lead J.D. Davis successfully through this leadership transition.”
