Here's how much Muscogee County School District employees earn in salary

In an effort to help taxpayers know how their money is being spent, the Ledger-Enquirer has been publishing the salaries of local public employees, with highlights in the newspaper and the complete databases at www.ledger-enquirer.com/news/databases.

Through requests made this year under the Open Records Acts of Georgia and Alabama, the L-E already has published the salaries of employees working for the Columbus Consolidated Government and the Phenix City and Russell County governments. Today, based on another open records request, it's the Muscogee County School District's turn.

The Muscogee County School District salary database comprises 4,945 full- and part-time employees, as of Oct. 1. Out of the 4,250 employees listed as receiving an annual base salary, the compensation ranges from crossing guards earning $4,798 to Superintendent David Lewis earning $170,000.

Lewis is among the 42 Muscogee County School District employees with six-figure salaries. The top 12 earners range from $120,000 to $130,000 and are in the superintendent's cabinet,

plus the director of the county's public libraries, which the school district owns and operates.

The remaining six-figure earners are a mix of principals and central office administrators.
