Columbus State announces 2016 awards for top students, faculty

Columbus State University has announced its most outstanding students and faculty members for the 2015-16 school year.

Chelsea Anne Person received the Faculty Cup, given to an extremely high-achieving student. Person graduated in December, earning a bachelor’s degree in communication with a concentration in public relations. She was an active member in CSU’s Honors College and the Servant Leadership Program. She assisted with the Broadway Tree Trimming project by providing marketing strategy for the fundraiser that collected nearly $19,000 for Truth Spring Academy. She was chapter president in the Public Relations Student Society of America and excelled on the field with the Lady Cougars soccer team.

Jeanine Fittipaldi-Wert, an associate professor of health, physical education and exercise science, was named CSU’s Educator of the Year. She directs Camp Abilities Columbus, a developmental sports camp for children who are blind or visually impaired.

Clinton Barineau, chairman of CSU’s Department of Earth and Space Science, won the award for faculty research and scholarship.

Christopher McCollough, an assistant professor of communication, won the award for faculty service.
