14th Combat Support Hospital deploying to Afghanistan
A month after deploying to Liberia, more members of the 14th Combat Support Hospital at Fort Benning are deploying to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom Sentinel.
A 2 p.m. ceremony will be held May 29 at the Sightseeing Chapel for soldiers who will help provide the highest level of care to others deployed in the area. Duties include medical support for assigned Department of Defense, U.S. military and contracted personnel in Afghanistan.
To prepare for the deployment, soldiers took part in combat trauma training and more than 40 additional training and certification requirements. Officials said the length of the deployment has not been determined.
Last month, members of the unit were deployed for four months as part of the Forward Resuscitative Surgical Support Force to provide surgical and medical support for all Department of Defense, U.S. military and U.S. embassy personnel in Liberia.
