Lt. Gen. Robert B. Brown, former commander of the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Thursday for his four-star promotion to the rank of general.

Hours after the vote, Brown said goodbye to students attending the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center and Fort Leavenworth, Kan., where he was commanding general. Brown was reassigned to his new position as commanding general of the United States Army Pacific at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, according to the Combined Arms Center website.

Brown, 57, had served as commander of the Combined Arms Center since Feb. 13, 2014. He arrived at the post after serving as commander of I Corps and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash., from July 2012 to Feb. 6, 2014.

From November 2010 to June 2012, Brown was commander of the Maneuver Center of Excellence. He played a key role in completing the Base Realignment and Closure process, which included moving the U.S. Armor School from Fort Knox, Ky., to the post. The move paved the way for $3.5 billion in construction throughout the post to unite the U.S. Infantry School and U.S. Armor School on the same installation.

Brown will succeed Gen. Vincent Brooks, who was confirmed this week as commander of armed forces in Korea.
