What to know about playing Powerball in Georgia ahead of $1.9 billion jackpot

By the time the numbers are drawn at 11 p.m. Monday, the estimated Powerball jackpot will be a record-breaking $1.9 billion with a cash value of $929.1 million.

The drawing will be the 41st Powerball drawing since the jackpot was last won on Aug. 3, according to Mississippi Lottery officials.

If you plan to try your luck, here’s what you need to know to play Powerball.

Where can I buy a Powerball ticket near me?

Powerball tickets are available in every U.S. state except Alabama, Alaska, Nevada, Hawaii and Utah.

Georgia sells lottery tickets online once you register for a Players Club account on the Georgia Lottery website. The service is only available to players physically located in the state of Georgia. The website uses GEO-location software when you purchase tickets.

You can search for retailers near you by ZIP Code or by city. Visit the Georgia Lottery website and scroll down to the bottom of the page where it says, “Where to Play.”

How much does it cost to get a Powerball ticket?

Powerball tickets are $2 each. For an additional $1 per play, the Power Play feature can multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10 times. The 10X multiplier is only in play when the advertised jackpot annuity is $150 million or less.

Can I use my debit or credit card to purchase tickets?

Yes, you can use a card when you purchase tickets online. When playing in person, the method of payment is up to the individual retailer. Some stores limit purchases to cash and credit and some take only cash.

What prizes can I win?

Powerball has nine ways to win a prize.

  1. To win the grand prize, you have to have all five numbers plus the Powerball (PB).
  2. Five correct numbers without the PB number is worth $1 million, $2 million if the power play is used.
  3. Four numbers plus the PB is worth $50,000 or $100,000 if you bought the power play.
  4. Four numbers without the PB is worth $100 or $200 with the power play. The amount can go up to $1,000 depending on which power play multiplier is purchased.
  5. Three numbers plus the PB is worth $100 or $200 with the power play. The amount can go up to $1,000 depending on which power play multiplier is purchased.
  6. Three numbers without the PB is worth $7 and can be multiplied up to 10 times for a total of $70 with power play.
  7. Two numbers plus the PB is worth $7 and can be multiplied up to 10 times for a total of $70 with power play.
  8. One number plus the PB is worth $4 and can be multiplied up to 10 times for a total of $40.
  9. No numbers correct but the PB is worth $4 and can be multiplied up to 10 times for a total of $40.

When are Powerball drawings?

Drawings are Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at 11 p.m. When purchasing tickets, you have the option of playing the same numbers for more than one drawing.

How late can I buy a Powerball ticket?

The latest you can buy a Powerball ticket in Georgia on the day of the drawing is 10 p.m.

How can I check my lottery numbers?

You can visit our website, call 1-800-GA-LUCKY, visit galottery.com, watch the live drawing on television or take the tickets to a retailer. If you are registered to play online, you can sign up for notifications.
