77-year-old skier found dead after slamming into tree at Colorado resort, cops say
A skier was found unconscious and not breathing after slamming into a tree at a Colorado ski resort, police said.
The 77-year-old woman had been skiing at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort on Tuesday. Feb. 8, when she collided with the tree, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.
Resort ski patrol and authorities from several agencies rushed to help the woman. They “attempted life-saving measures,” but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was wearing a helmet, resort officials said.
“We at Eldora are profoundly saddened by this tragic accident and offer our deepest sympathies to the skier’s family and friends,” the resort said in an email to McClatchy News.
No foul play is suspected, but the sheriff’s office will continue to investigate the incident.
“The Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death, as well as the identity of the decedent,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
At least two others have died at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort this skiing season.
In December, a 60-year-old man died after crashing into a tree.
“Ski patrol immediately began first aid and CPR, but their resuscitative efforts were unsuccessful, and the male was pronounced dead in the first aid room,” police said in a news release at the time.
In the same week, another skier died at Eldora after colliding with a snowboarder, McClatchy News reported.
The resort told The Denver Channel the skier was wearing a helmet and it was not crowded when the two collided.
“We at Eldora offer our deepest sympathies to the skier’s family and friends, and we hold him and them in our thoughts and hearts during this difficult time,” Eldora Ski Area told The Denver Channel in a statement at the time.
Eldora Mountain Ski Resort is about 20 miles southwest of Boulder.
