Watch ‘the most insane strike of lightning’ branch across the sky in Kansas
As lightning branched across a stormy Kansas sky, a photographer was recording video in slow motion.
His 9-second video captured the lightning shoot upward while it continued branching up into the sky, lighting up the Wichita neighborhood with a quick series of bright flashes.
Taylor Vonfeldt shared his video on Twitter shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, describing the electrical discharge as “the most insane strike of lightning I’ve ever caught on camera.”
The slow-motion video did not capture the sound of the thunder that followed, but Vonfeldt said it was not as impressive.
The Wichita area was in a severe thunderstorm warning at the time Vonfeldt posted his lightning video, which he captured on an iPhone.
The video has more than 600,000 views in the first 12 hours and has been shared by weather enthusiasts and experts including The Weather Channel and their meteorologist Jim Cantore.
