Missing woman’s body found in ‘rugged terrain’ days after disappearing, Montana cops say
A missing woman’s body was found in the Montana mountains days after she was last seen, officials told multiple news outlets.
Deidra Lufkins’ body was found Sunday, May 8, in the Highland Mountains south of Butte, the Montana Standard reported.
Lufkins is from Pierre, South Dakota, and she vanished near the Highlands Campground on May 5 or May 6 after separating from two men, the outlet reported.
Authorities said the woman and men got their car stuck and they separated to find help, but Lufkins was never seen again, NBC Montana reported.
Her remains were found in “rugged terrain,” KRTV reported.
Lufkins likely died from hypothermia, according to an initial investigation, the outlet reported.
An autopsy and toxicology testing will be conducted by the Montana State Crime Lab, NBC Montana reported.
