Witnesses use helicopter to rescue infant, 2 adults after plane crash, Alaska cops say
Witnesses rescued an infant and two adults from a plane that crashed into an Alaskan river, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety.
Those who witnessed the crash on the Matanuska River in Glacier View were quick to respond Saturday, May 28, a news release said.
“Brett Winterbottom of Glacier View tethered himself to his ATV and swam into the Matanuska River,” the release said.
Winterbottom saved both the man and 7-month-old, according to the release, and handed the baby to Tammy Saunders, a Texan nurse visiting the state, who examined the infant.
The woman from the plane, who was separated from her family and swam to “shore on the opposite side of the river,” was rescued by another witness who used a helicopter to pick her up and take her to her family, according to the release.
LifeMed arrived on scene and transported the woman and infant to the hospital, the release said.
