‘Loving father’ of 5 killed by car while picking up trash cans, Oklahoma family says
Family and friends are mourning the death of a father of five who was struck by a car while working in Oklahoma.
Clarence Bond Jr., a sanitation worker for American Waste Control, was at work collecting trash cans near Sand Springs at 6 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol told News On 6.
Bond was crossing the street to pick up trash cans when a car fatally struck him, K95.5 reported, citing troopers. At the time of the collision, he had on a jacket with reflective material on the arms.
The driver stayed at the scene, the patrol said in a news release to McClatchy News.
Bond was a 44-year-old man from Tulsa, troopers said in the release.
American Waste Control told News On 6 that he was “a great employee who will be greatly missed.” The company did not respond to McClatchy News’ request for comment on Nov. 15.
Bond’s wife mourned the death of her husband, a “loving father of five,” according to a GoFundMe.
A friend, Reeree Valentine Perry, wrote on Facebook that Bond was “a great man who was quiet and sweet.”
“I feel so broken right now,” Bond’s sister, Shermane Bond-Herron, wrote on Facebook.
Sand Springs is a suburb to the west of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
