Officers carrying out a welfare check found a 64-year-old man dead inside a blood-stained house, and his brother is accused of killing him, Missouri police say.

Police in Webster Groves went to the home after Timothy Fox didn’t show up to work and didn’t call for two days, according to court records filed in St. Louis County. Someone from Fox’s place of work was concerned and asked police to check in on him, so they went to a house where he lived with his brother.

Fox is 58 years old, the Webster-Kirkwood Times reported, adding that his brother has been identified as 64-year-old Peter Fox.

Officers went to the address and entered to find Peter Fox dead on a couch, with a hatchet lodged in his head, documents read. Blood was all over the floor, wall and ceiling around the body.

Police searched the home and found Timothy Fox in a back living room, seemingly very intoxicated, investigators said. While at the scene, he kept asking officers “how did you guys find out about this” and “how did you know he was here,” according to documents.

Fox was arrested on charges of murder and armed criminal action, and his bond is set at $500,000, records show.

No attorney information was listed for Fox.

Webster Groves is a roughly 10-mile drive southwest from St. Louis.
