Family headed to funeral struck by train, Tennessee officials say. 6 injured
A train struck a funeral home limo carrying family members to a funeral, injuring six, Tennessee officials said.
“Please keep a local family in your prayers today,” Bartlett Alderman Kevin Quinn said in an April 17 Facebook post.
The crash happened at about 12 p.m. April 17 at a crossing in Bartlett, Tennessee, about a 10-mile drive northeast from Memphis, a CSX Transportation spokesperson told McClatchy News in an April 21 email.
“Bartlett Police Department and EMS from Shelby County quickly responded to the scene and reported that there were multiple passengers injured. There were no injuries reported of the train crew,” the spokesperson said.
Two other cars were involved in the crash, WMC reported.
Six people were taken to a hospital with injuries, Quinn said.
Aisha Shabree, a family member at the funeral, told WHBQ that other relatives were waiting on the children and grandchildren of the deceased to arrive when they learned what happened. One child and five adults were in the limo, and all are expected to recover, Shabree said.
McClatchy News reached out to the funeral home April 21 and was awaiting a response.
The crash is being investigated, according to CSX Transportation.
