19-year-old, teen die in motorcycle crash, Texas cops say. ‘So much life ahead’
A 19-year-old man and 16-year-old high school student are dead after a motorcycle crash in East Texas, officials say.
Kyron Richardson was driving at a high speed near Wright Patnam Lake — close to Texarkana — on Friday, Aug. 1, when his motorcycle went off the road and hit a guardrail, the state Department of Public Safety told KYTX. Richardson and his teenage passenger were thrown from the bike and they died at the scene, officials said.
The passenger was identified as Caitlyn Sponholz, of Queen City, KSLA reported. g
“Caitlyn loved hunting, fishing, archery, and riding horses … (and) had plans to become a marine biologist after attending college,” her obituary read. “Her laughter was infectious, her spirit was contagious, and her love for life was a gift to all who knew her.”
Caitlyn was “truly my better half,” friend Natalie Geter said in a Facebook post. “I was completely shattered when I received the news.”
“She had this incredible ability to brighten every room she walked into,” the post read.
Richardson, of Texarkana, “was a beautiful boy becoming a man,” his family told KSLA, adding that “he graduated last year at the top of his class.”
“He had so much life ahead of him,” his family told the station.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to officials, the station reported.
Queen City is a roughly 170-mile drive northeast from Dallas, and Texarkana is about 180 miles northeast from Dallas.
