Police Searching for Texas Man Wanted in Killing of Missing Pregnant Woman
Days after she was reported missing by concerned loved ones, police are on the hunt for the man they've charged with murdering a 23-year-old Texas woman who was eight months pregnant.
Kevin Faux has been formally charged with murder for his alleged role in the death of Ashanti Allen and her unborn child, according to a statement from Houston Police.
"During the investigation, detectives developed Faux as the suspect in the woman's death," reads the statement, and "he was subsequently charged for his role in her death."
Faux, 24, is believed to be the father of the baby Allen was carrying, said cops. In addition, police in their statement gave no indications of where they think the wanted man could be.
It was unclear if investigators intend on charging Faux with his unborn baby's death.
Allen was last seen leaving her Houston home on April 8. She was reported missing on Friday, April 10, after her mother received a text from Allen's phone that read: "I'm leaving and never coming back."
Police said they located Allen's remains on Thursday, April 16, at a park in the Chimney Rock neighborhood.
Texas EquuSearch - a search and recovery non-profit organization that helps law enforcement find missing persons using horses, sonar and radar technology, boats, drones and more - had joined the search for Allen.
"Ashanti's safety is highly concerning due to being 8 months pregnant and experiencing a high-risk pregnancy," the organization said.
Allen had been using a wheelchair to get around after experiencing incidents of fainting, police confirmed.
Allen's family members told KHOU that they visited her apartment after the disturbing text was received, and discovered her belongings were still there. That included a hospital bag she had already packed for herself with clothes for her baby.
Authorities also confirmed to the TV station that Allen was in her mother's white Lincoln SUV before she had vanished.
Anyone with information about Kevin Faux's location should call either 911 or the Houston Police Department's homicide squad at (713) 308-3600. You can also call in information to Crime Stoppers of Houston at (713) 222-TIPS.
Texas EquuSearch had offered a $5,000 reward for information resulting in "the rescue or recovery of Ashanti" and her "unborn baby." It was unclear if that reward was still available on Friday, April 17.
Houston Police officials could not be reached for additional comment on Friday.
