The place known as the former Bontddu Hall Hotel has hit the real estate market in North Wales for $1.25 million, and while the photos of the property are certainly stunning, there’s one caveat...and it’s a big one.

Half of the hotel, which was originally built in 1873, was ravaged by a fire in 2020 that claimed the life of a woman who was pulled from the flames, but later died at the scene, BBC News reported.

“Unfortunately, the property has recently suffered a serious fire and is no longer able to be utilized as a property in its given state although the structure, in part, still stands,” the listing says.

“Therefore, the opportunity is being offered to the market predominantly for redevelopment of the existing hall, or for an incoming buyer to develop as required, subject to relevant planning permissions and consents from the local authority.”

The hotel, which sits on 2.4 acres in the Snowdonia National Park, overlooks the Mawddach River and once had 20 bedrooms, the New York Post reported. Famous guests included Sir Winston Churchill and actor Sean Connery.

“Bontddu Hall Hotel once traded as a successful business and could again,” the listing said. “However, due to the condition of the building it would need to be completely re-built before any business could trade.”

According to itv.com, the hotel had been turned into a private residence at the time of the fire and the owners were in the middle of restoring it.
