Moms bringing cupcakes to senators to urge opposition to health care repeal bill

TNS

Moms will be bringing cupcakes to the in-district offices of three U.S. senators this week urging opposition to the Graham-Cassidy Health Care Repeal Bill.

The three Republican senators are John McCain of Arizona, Cory Gardner of Colorado and Rob Portman of Ohio.

The women are members of MomsRising. According to its website, https://www.momsrising.org/, it is a grassroots organization of more than a million people working to achieve economic security for all moms, women and families in the United States. Established in 2006, It is working for paid family leave, earned sick days and affordable childcare.

In a news release, CEO/executive director Kristin Rowe-Finkbeiner said, “Protecting health care should be a piece of cake so we are delivering cupcakes to tell senators to do their jobs by doing what’s right and oppose this latest attempt to take a wrecking ball to health care and families in the United States.”

In that news release, MomsRising says the Graham-Cassidy Health Care Repeal Bill would have a “devastating impact on women,” that cuts to federal funding for Medicaid would be especially damaging as women make up two-thirds of Medicaid’s adult enrollees and Medicaid covers half of all childbirths in the country.

It says the Republican plan would allow states to acquire waivers to exempt insurers from covering essential health benefits such as maternity care.
