Georgia congressman who represents Columbus was on train involved in deadly collision

A Georgia congressman who represents north Columbus was on the Amtrack train that hit a truck outside Charlottesville, Va., Wednesday morning.

Rep. Drew Ferguson, a West Point Republican who represents the Third District, sent out a Tweet shortly before noon saying he was OK.

“The train carrying @HouseGOP and @SenateGOP to our retreat has had a collision,” Ferguson tweeted. “I am unharmed, and doctors on board are assisting the injured.”

Less than an hour later, Ferguson tweeted: “Please join me in praying for all those injured in the accident. The first responders have been incredible, and we are deeply grateful for their service.”

Those on the train included House Speaker Paul Ryan. It was on the way to a legislative retreat in West Virginia hit a truck, multiple news agencies have reported.

The driver of the truck was killed and a passenger was seriously injured, ABC News reported. There were no serious injuries to congressional members, ABC reported.
