mhaskey@ledger-enquirer.com

Employees and visitors at the Columbus Government Center evacuated the building Monday morning.

The order came from the Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman after a suspicious briefcase was left in a stairwell, city manager Isaiah Hugley told the Ledger-Enquirer.

The sheriff’s office is responsible for the building’s security.

Hugley texted the Ledger-Enquirer at 10:53 a.m. that the Government Center was determined to be all clear, and employees and visitors were allowed back into the building.
