Here’s how Columbus Riverwalk construction and closures might affect you

A $3.3 million project to address erosion and install new seating areas along the Columbus Riverwalk near the Synovus Centre will close portions of the attraction and Bay Avenue during construction.

How will it affect you?

Preliminary work is expected to begin March 28, and construction is slated to end in December. During construction, the riverwalk near the Chattahoochee River Club to 11th Street will be closed.

The rest of it will remain open, said Philip Adams, a project engineer with the city’s engineering department.

The segment of Bay Avenue in front of the Synovus Center will be closed next week as construction crews set up. It will remain closed until construction is finished.

Drivers won’t be able to access Bay Avenue using 12th. Cars coming down 11th Street will still be able to proceed down Bay towards Banks Food Hall and other nearby attractions. If you’re going to Synovus or the Riverclub, the parking deck will be open and accessible, Adams said.

“The only real blockage would be that 12th Street would no longer have thru-traffic access,” he said. “The disruption is very, very minimal as far as traffic is concerned.”
