Funeral arrangements are set for Smiths Station Mayor Bubba Copeland

Funeral arrangements have been scheduled for Smiths Station Mayor F.L. “Bubba” Copeland.

Visitation will be Nov. 8, from 4:30-8 p.m. EST at Vance Brooks Funeral Home, 3738 Highway 431 North/280 West in Phenix City. The funeral will be Nov. 9, starting at 3 p.m. EST at First Baptist Church of Phenix City, 2608 Summerville Road. A private interment will follow.

Copeland served as mayor of Smiths Station for the past seven years. He also was serving as senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Phenix City and owner of the Country Market in Salem. He was a Lee County Board of Education member for eight years.

Copeland shot and killed himself Friday afternoon, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office announced, two days after a blog posted photos of him dressed as a woman.
