Georgia senators endorse Kamala Harris for president. What Columbus Democrats are saying
Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democrats’ nominee for president via social media Sunday, after President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the 2024 race.
Biden made the announcement he would step aside Sunday and asked the party to throw its weight behind Harris.
In a X (formerly Twitter) post, Ossoff stated:
“Pres. Biden’s record and decades of service to the country are extraordinary and historic. Thank you, @POTUS. Vice President Harris is now absolutely the right candidate to defeat Donald Trump and unite our country. @KamalaHarris is prepared, ready to win, & has my full support.”
Another Georgia senator supports Harris
Sen. Raphael Warnock released a statement via Facebook and X praising Biden and offering his endorsement of Harris for president.
“President Joe Biden demonstrated again today that he is a selfless servant leader and a true patriot, and why he is one of the most effective Presidents of my lifetime,” Warnock said. “Joe Biden has always put the people first.”
Warnock said supported Harris, saying he is “proud to endorse her candidacy to be the next President of the United States.”
Columbus Democrats: Will ‘work even harder now’
In a statement posted to social media Sunday, the Muscogee County Democratic Committee said it feels as if “we have lost a giant of a man” when Biden decided to drop out of the race.
“We will continue to work even harder now and will win up and down the ballot with our Democratic nominee at the top of the ticket,” the committee said in a statement.
The committee said it was “determined to win in November.”
