Tim Walz will make stops in Georgia as Kamala Harris campaign seeks support in swing state
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, the Democrats’ vice presidential candidate, will visit two Georgia cities this week in an effort to secure support in a swing state.
Walz, the running mate for current Vice President Kamala Harris, is expected to arrive in Macon Monday night before giving brief remarks in town at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to Harris’ campaign officials. He’ll then head to Atlanta later Tuesday for events in the afternoon. After leaving Georgia, he’ll make a stop in North Carolina.
Walz, who has been Minnesota’s governor since 2019, was announced as Harris’ running mate Aug. 6. It will be his first visit to Macon since he was picked as running mate, but the Harris-Walz campaign has held other events in Middle Georgia.
Friends of the campaign from the Peach State showed up in Bibb County and spoke in support of Harris’ stance on abortion earlier this month. The campaign has also made visits to other Georgia cities, including Columbus, where local officials and a business owner expressed support for Harris’ small business plans.
Pre-election polling in Georgia between Harris and former President Donald Trump has been close ever since Harris joined the race. An average of six prominent recent polls shows Trump has an advantage of about 1.3% in Georgia. Trump lost Georgia in 2020 by less than 1% and made unverified claims of election fraud in the state afterward, claims he has repeated as recently as last week’s presidential debate.
