Funeral is set for Columbus Clerk of Council Sandra Davis, ‘an incredible public servant’
Update: The funeral service for Columbus Clerk of Council Sandra Davis is set for Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. in Sconiers Funeral Home, 836 5th Ave., according to a Facebook post by Columbus Councilor Toyia Tucker. Visitation will be Friday from 3-5 p.m.
Columbus Mayor Skip Henderson told the Ledger-Enquirer on Monday that he received a phone call informing him of Davis’ death over the weekend. He was unable to provide more information about Davis’ death.
“She was an incredible public servant,” Henderson said. “She did her job as a professional, and our hearts are broken for her family’s loss.”
Davis is a Columbus native who began working for the Columbus Consolidated Government in 1987 before becoming the Clerk of Council in 2019.
Tucker echoed Henderson’s remarks in a Facebook post over the weekend. In the post, Tucker spoke of her grief from hearing the news. She called Davis an “unsung hero” in District 4.
“Sandra was such an amazing person,” Tucker wrote. “I will always be grateful for her peaceful spirit.”
The River Valley Black Chamber of Commerce also made a post on Facebook mourning the loss of Davis.
“We pray for her family, friends and colleagues and thank Ms. Davis for her dedicated service to the City of Columbus, Georgia,” the post says.
Officials have not released any information about Davis’ cause of death. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan told the Ledger-Enquirer neither he nor a deputy coroner was called in response to her death.
