Partial closures scheduled on JR Allen Parkway and Riverwalk in Columbus
The flow of two major corridors in Columbus — one a busy highway, the other a popular path for runners, walkers and cyclists — will be disrupted this month to accommodate construction work.
The Columbus Consolidated Government made the following announcements in news releases Tuesday:
Lane closures on J.R. Allen Parkway
These lane closures and traffic shifts will be implemented at the diverging diamond interchange on U.S. Route 80/Bradley Park Drive to allow Georgia Department of Transportation contractors to replace bridge headers, according to CCG:
- Phase One — From Oct 3 at 9 p.m. through Oct. 6 at 6 a.m., the inside lanes on J.R. Allen Parkway (U.S. 80/GA 22) will be closed, but the outside lanes will remain open.
- Phase Two - From Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. through Oct. 13 at 6 a.m., the outside lanes on J.R. Allen Parkway (U.S. 80/GA 22) will be closed, but the inside lanes will remain open.
This schedule is “subject to change due to weather or other factors,” the news release says. “Motorists should prepare for significant delays and plan accordingly.”

Intermittent closures on part of Chattahoochee Riverwalk
Repairs to a bridge for an elevated railroad will mean part of the Chattahoochee Riverwalk between 16th Street and 17th Street, near the TSYS and Mercer University School of Medicine campuses, will be closed intermittently during the week of Oct. 6, according to CCG.
