Columbus Council loosens restrictions on Sunday alcohol sales for one day

Super Bowl LX will be played Feb. 8, and the Columbus Council has loosened restrictions on alcohol sales for that day.

Normally, the sale of alcoholic beverages in eating establishments and retailers is allowed later in the day on Sundays, with the times varying by the type of business, according to section 3-13 of the Alcoholic Beverages chapter of the city’s code.

The resolution, which the council unanimously approved Tuesday, authorizes Sunday sales of alcoholic beverages at all on-premises locations in Columbus on Feb. 8, 2026.

This was done because various establishment would “lose significant revenue opportunity if they were not able to be open to provide Super Bowl watching events,” according to the resolution.

All holders of an on-premises local alcohol license will be allowed to sell and serve alcoholic beverages between 11 a.m. and midnight Feb. 8.
