Brannan chosen as delegate to Republican National Convention
Joseph Brannan of Columbus has been chosen as a delegate from Georgia to the 2016 Republican National Convention.
“I am very excited about the opportunity,” said the 32-year-old Brannan, who will be one of three people representing the Second Congressional District Republican Party.
The convention is July 18-21 in Cleveland. It is the fourth time the Republicans have met in Ohio and first since 1936.
The Democratic National Convention is July 25-28 in Philadelphia.
Chosen along with Brannan from the district were Brandon Phillips of Grady County and Alec Poitevent of Decatur County.
Named as alternates were Rick Allen of Muscogee County, Nora Laughlin of Bibb County, and Cindy Summerlin of Mitchell County.
Brannan, an Auburn University graduate and assistant general manager for PMB Broadcasting, was an alternate four years ago.
“I got to watch from the sideline. This will be better,” Brannan said.
He expects plenty of action.
“There is a good chance it could be a contested convention,” Brannan
A reason he gave for that was “so many good candidates.”
Georgia State Sen. Josh McKoon, a Republican, said Brannan was a good choice as a delegate and is excited for him.
“He is a great person, great Republican and great ambassador for what the Republican Party stands for,” McKoon said.
McKoon said Brannan is incredibly generous with his time, investing a lot of hours supporting the Republican Party and its candidates.
“He is exactly the kind of person who should be sent to Cleveland to represent Georgia,” McKoon said.
