Elections

Early voting starts soon in Chattahoochee Valley. Here’s what voters need to know.

Early voting starts Monday in Columbus for the presidential preference primary and a special election for a sales tax.

In Georgia it is not required to register with a political party to vote in the primary election, but voters must choose only one party’s ballot.

Voters who choose to cast a ballot for the Democratic party will see 12 candidates names, though many of them are no longer active candidates.

Those who cast a ballot for the Republican party will see only the option to vote for incumbent President Donald Trump.

Both ballots will also contain a Muscogee County School District sales tax referendum, and a ballot including just that referendum can also be chosen.

Early voting will only be held at the City Services Center, located at 3111 Citizens Way off Macon Road. Times and dates are as follows:

  • 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 2-6

The next election will be the general primary and nonpartisan general election on May 19. On that ballot, citizens will see local city council and school board candidates as well as candidates for sheriff and other county and state offices.

The voter registration deadline for that election is April 20.
