The morning after Election Day in Muscogee County, key races have been decided in the area.

Voters in Muscogee County and surrounding areas were tasked with voting on races for the state House of Representatives, the Muscogee County School Board, the U.S. House and the Muscogee County Coroner’s Office. Muscogee and Chattahoochee counties also had ballot measures to determine whether to continue allowing a special sales tax to fund educational construction projects.

Here’s what to know about Tuesday’s results.

Who won crowded primary fields for GA Congress seats?

A combined 13 candidates across two Georgia Congressional seats in the Columbus area were reduced Tuesday, but two of the fights for a nomination will result in a run-off. In District 2, Republicans Wayne Johnson and Chuck Hand were the top two vote-getters, but neither could secure a majority of the votes. So they’ll contend with one another in a June 18 run-off, with the winner facing incumbent Democrat Sanford Bishop.

In District 3, the GOP nomination will also have to be decided by a run-off. Candidates Brian Jack and Mike Dugan were the top candidates on the Republican side, so they’ll advance to the Jun 18 election. Maura Keller won the Democratic nomination. Read more about the Congressional races here.

Winners declared in Georgia House races

Two primaries were on the ballot in Muscogee County for seats in the Georgia House of Representatives. Republican nominee Carmen Rice was selected as the GOP candidate for District 139, and incumbent Rep. Teddy Reese was elected in District 140, a seat in which he’ll run unopposed in the General Election. Read more here.

Columbus Council race is headed to a run-off

Incumbent District 4 council member Toyia Tucker won her race Tuesday, but another Columbus City Council seat is headed to a runoff. The fight for an at-large seat between John Anker, Travis Chambers, Patrick Leonard and Rocky Marsh didn’t see a candidate get a majority of the vote, meaning the top two vote-getters will compete again. Here’s what to know.
