Phenix City and Smiths Station election results for mayor, council, school board
Tuesday was municipal election day in Phenix City and Smiths Station.
The offices of mayor and council were on the ballots in these cities, along with seats on the Phenix City Board of Education.
Less than half of the 18 nonpartisan seats up for election on these governing bodies had contested races.
Here are the results in Phenix City and Smiths Station, according to the city clerks:
Phenix City Council
Mayor: Eddie Lowe won reelection without opposition for a fourth term.
At-large: Jasponica Florence defeated Raymond Smith 720-582. The incumbent, Griff Gordy, didn’t seek reelection.
District 1: Steve Bailey won reelection without opposition for a third term.
District 2: Vickey Carter Green (incumbent) defeated John “Barry” Oswalt 175-116, winning reelection for her second term.
District 3: Arthur Day Jr. (incumbent) defeated Jamar Gayles 337-252, winning reelection for his fourth term. The Phenix City Police Department announced last week Gayles was arrested and charged with two counts of attempt to commit absentee voter fraud (Class C felony) and one count of conspiracy to commit absentee voter fraud (Class B misdemeanor).
Phenix City Board of Education
At-large: Likitca Ligon won the seat without opposition. The incumbent, Florence Bellamy, didn’t seek reelection.
District 1/Place 1: Steve Pace won the seat without opposition. The incumbent, Brady Baird, didn’t seek reelection.
District 1/Place 2: Jonathan Taylor won reelection without opposition for his second term.
District 2/Place 1: James “Elliott” Patrick won reelection without opposition for his second term.
District 2/Place 2: Richard Carter defeated incumbent KeAnthony Brooks 213-73.
District 3/Place 1: Katrina Collier-Long won reelection without opposition for her second term.
District 3/Place 2: Yolaunda Daniel won reelection without opposition for her second term.
Smiths Station City Council
Mayor: Richard Cooley (incumbent) defeated challenger Lisa Deason 349-326. The council appointed Cooley as mayor after Bubba Copeland died by suicide in November 2023.
Place 1: George Stringer, who has served on the council since it was established in 2001, was reelected without opposition.
Place 2: Adam Littleton, a newcomer to the council, was elected without opposition. The incumbent, Morris Jackson, didn’t seek reelection.
Place 3: Steve Lansdon (incumbent) was reelected without opposition for his second term.
Place 4: Dwayne Peterson (incumbent) defeated challenger Daniel Soto 416-237. The council appointed Peterson in December 2023 to fill Cooley’s council seat until the next election.
Place 5: Victoria Green was reelected without opposition for her second term.
