So, now that the Columbus elections are over, who are the city’s new leaders?
The members of the Columbus Council for the rest of this year and the next term are set after the May 19 election and the June 16 runoff.
Muscogee County conducted two special elections this past election cycle to fill the District 1 and citywide District 9 seats for the remainder of 2026.
Mayor Skip Henderson couldn’t run for reelection because city law limits mayors to two four-year terms. He will complete his final term at the end of this year. Mayor-elect Isaiah Hugley will be sworn into office in January.
For the remainder of this year, here’s who will be serving on the Columbus Council:
- District 1 - Simi Barnes, elected May 19
- District 2 - Glenn Davis
- District 3 - Bruce Huff
- District 4 - Toyia Tucker
- District 5 - Charmaine Crabb
- District 6 - Mayor Pro Tem Gary Allen
- District 7 - Joanne Cogle
- District 8 - Walker Garrett
- Citywide District 9 - Cathy Cook, elected June 16
- Citywide District 10 - Travis Chambers
- Mayor - Skip Henderson
Beginning in 2027, the winners of the regular elections will be sworn in to start serving their four-year terms on the Columbus Council. The members in 2027 will be:
- District 1 - Simi Barnes
- District 2 - Glenn Davis
- District 3 - Sherrie Aaron, elected May 19
- District 4 - Toyia Tucker
- District 5 - Charmaine Crabb
- District 6 - Mayor Pro Tem Gary Allen
- District 7 - Rebecca “Becca” Zajac, elected June 16
- District 9 - Cathy Cook
- District 10 - Travis Chambers
- Mayor - Isaiah Hugley, elected June 16
Columbus voters will return to the polls in November to vote in federal and state races, including U.S. Senate, Georgia governor, state Senate and state House of Representatives.
