10 people stranded in midair on broken sky lift at Alabama zoo, photos show
Ten people were rescued after being stranded in the air on a sky lift in Alabama, officials say.
Firefighters responded to the Montgomery Zoo, where people were “suspended in the air in various locations throughout the grounds,” Montgomery Fire/Rescue wrote on Facebook on Saturday, March 5.
The sky lift’s emergency release wasn’t working, officials said, so firefighters used a firetruck’s aerial ladder to get 6 people down. Zoo workers used a lull to rescue the others, officials said.
Officials posted photos of the rescue, showing firefighters helping people off the lift and down the ladder.
“Great job by Montgomery Fire/Rescue and the Montgomery Zoo staff on a successful rescue as there were no injuries to civilian, Zoo workers or Fire/Rescue personnel,” rescuers wrote on Facebook.
No other information had been released as of Sunday, March 6. McClatchy News has reached out to the zoo for additional information about the rescue.
